Uniting for ImpactFor over three decades, the nonprofit Madagascar Fauna and Flora Group (MFG) has achieved this mission through a membership-based collaboration of zoos, aquariums, botanical gardens, and related institutions.
The MFG operates Parc Ivoloina and has a partnership with Madagascar National Parks to conduct conservation research in the Betampona Natural Reserve. Read our latest annual report. |
As a trusted leader in biodiversity conservation, the MFG is proud to be recognized and supported by globally-esteemed organizations to expand our critical work in protecting Madagascar’s unique wildlife and habitats. These prestigious partnerships enable us to drive meaningful, long-term impact in Madagascar.

Conservation ActionFrom participating in international efforts for endangered plants and animals to reintroducing lemurs, the MFG supports diverse strategies to conserve biodiversity.
With a team of nearly 100 staff on the ground, we both operate long-term efforts like reforestation as well as respond quickly to rescue rare wildlife in need. |
The Betampona Reserve is one of very few protected areas in Madagascar to have increased in forest cover and quality over the last decade through our reforestation work and was selected as a test site for Botanic Gardens Conservation International’s new Global Biodivesity Standards for responsible restoration.

Student SuccessThe MFG Saturday School program provides supplemental instruction in mathematics, French, science, and environmental issues.
This help has enabled thousands of rural children to pass the exam to advance into secondary school. And that gives a child hope and opportunities for a better life. |
Practical ResearchThe global need to better understand nature has consequences from addressing emerging health crises to containing invasive species that cost economies billions of dollars.
Along with our own direct research, the MFG has staff expertise and existing infrastructure to assist numerous scientists in their diverse research efforts. |
Through collaborations, Parc Ivoloina now provides living assurance populations for numerous rare plant species rescued from dwindling forest fragments.
"Certainly, this is the most comprehensive collection of Malagasy palms in Madagascar and perhaps anywhere in the World. Most significant in this collection are the nine Critically Endangered species and ten Endangered species."
