Uniting for ImpactFor three decades, the nonprofit Madagascar Fauna and Flora Group (MFG) has achieved this mission through a membership-based collaboration of zoos, aquariums, botanical gardens, and related institutions.
The MFG operates Parc Ivoloina and has a partnership with Madagascar National Parks to conduct conservation research in the Betampona Natural Reserve. |
Missouri Botanical Garden and the MFG
Missouri Botanical Garden supports MFG as a Managing Member institution providing Gold Level support for our long term efforts.
In addition, Missouri Botanical Garden also provides expertise to the MFG by having its Senior Curator and Director of the Africa & Madagascar Program, Dr. Pete Lowry, serve on the MFG Board of Directors. |

Conservation ActionFrom participating in international efforts for endangered plants and animals to reintroducing lemurs, the MFG supports diverse strategies to conserve biodiversity.
With a team of nearly 100 staff on the ground, we both operate long-term efforts like reforestation as well as respond quickly to care for wildlife in need. |
Student SuccessThe MFG Saturday School program provides supplemental instruction in mathematics, French, science, and environmental issues.
This help has enabled thousands of rural children to pass the exam to advance into secondary school. And that gives a child hope and opportunities for a better life. |
Practical ResearchThe global need to better understand nature has consequences from addressing emerging health crises to containing invasive species that cost economies billions of dollars.
Along with our own direct research, the MFG has staff expertise and existing infrastructure to assist numerous scientists in their diverse research efforts. |
Building CapacityThe MFG staff and scientific advisors mentor undergraduate and graduate students, teach classes and host workshops providing hands-on training, work with farmers to improve the quality and quantity of their harvests using available resources, and assist teachers in providing active learning strategies.
