A consortium of international zoos, aquariums, botanical gardens and universities, the MFG works in partnership with the Malagasy Government to conserve its rich biodiversity. Through collaboration and pooling of resources, the MFG maximizes the contribution its individual members can make towards sustainable conservation strategies for the fauna and flora of eastern Madagascar. The MFG’s success is due, in large part, to our in-country team who implement our conservation objectives within the framework of local needs, customs, policies and politics. Read more below.

Conserving Madagascar's Threatened Plants - One Seed at a Time
The MFG, Missouri Botanical Garden and Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew were awarded a Darwin Initiative grant for the ex-situ conservation of threatened plants from the small, degraded and highly fragmented forest patches of the Ifontsy-Ivoloina River Valleys. The project's two primary objects are to: 1) collect seeds from endemic plants for their preservation at Silo National des Graines Forestières (SNFG) and the "Millennium Seed Bank" of RBG Kew, or by their propagation and planting-out at Parc Ivoloina, Parc Botanique et Zoologique de Tsimbazaza and SNGF and 2) increase the capacity in Madagascar for the conservation of flora through training in field botany and horticulture.
